Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a permit?

A permit is required for any works within the District boundaries that could potentially change or alter the current flow of waters within the District.

Normal ditch maintenance does not require a permit application, but be sure to keep the work to original specifications.  District staff strongly encourages landowners to take pictures and record ground elevation prior to completing any work.

Why do I need a permit?

Permits are required to keep the managers informed of planned projects, and in some instances so staff can provide assistance or advice.  Permit applications ensure that land disturbing activity within the District occurs in an orderly manner in accordance with the District's overall plan.

When should I apply for a permit?

We strongly recommend submitting for a permit application as early as possible to avoid installation delays.  Permit applications are valid for two years from the date of approval and there is no cost to apply.  Installation delays from not applying early can be costly.  Permit deadlines are posted above.

Do I need approval from anyone else?

A WRWD approved permit does not relieve the applicant of any requirements for other permits which may be necessary from township, county, state or federal agencies.  We encourage that you contact other agencies to determine their permitting requirements.
